The heartbeat law has gone into effect. Of the three centers that offered abortions, two say they no longer offer abortions. The one in Ames still lists abortion, but according to law they can do so if no heartbeat is detected on the sonogram.
PP’s centers in Cedar Falls, Council Bluffs, and Des Moines – Rosenfeld closed recently. Cedar Rapids is temporarily closed.

We list Community Health Centers, Rural Health Clinics, and other possible alternatives. These were found through web research, with occasional additions from local activists. Unless noted, they still need to be vetted by local activists as to quality and suitability. Here are action suggestions if they’re suitable or if they need improvement. Both Check My Clinic and Americans United for Life Report “Unsafe” (page 65) report that Iowa doesn’t inspect abortion facilities.

But since most don’t do abortions, we add listings because they often offer excellent services to low-income people. Local activists researching PP alternatives can find out if they’re suitable.
