How to Participate

First Stage: Gathering Information

We matched Community Health Centers and Rural Health Clinics with PP centers based on what was on the web. But only people on the ground and in the location can really give us the information that will make this higher quality.

See How to Research for the questions we need to know, and how the centers compare to their matched PP centers.

But —

Do you know of clerical errors or updates? Or that a PP center or a CHC no longer exists, or has moved, or changed names?

Do you or your friends have personal experience with any of the CHCs, good or bad, that you can tell us about?

If this is all you do to help the campaign, it’s fantastic! Thank you so much.

 Long-Term Campaigns:

Town-by-Town, City-by-City, State-by-State

Small towns mainly have one PP center and then only one or two CHCs – or none at all. If the CHCs are good, you can focus on those and there’s an easily-defined campaign. If the CHCs need improvement, then helping them does a huge amount of good in building up alternatives to PP. If there are no CHCs listed, is there some other place that can work? If not, can the pro-life groups that lobby the state legislature help? Each individual town that works on this campaign can have a huge impact – each PP center is one out of only about 600, so each town that has patients going elsewhere for their health needs has made a major contribution.

Large cities often have more than one PP center, and it’s common that the number of CHCs for each one is substantial. It becomes more complicated to figure out where to send people, and maybe you want to send them several places to spread the patient load. Or publish a consumer guide honestly covering them all. We’d love to hear what strategies seem to work best!

States have potential for lobbying state legislature – an activity useful not just for our direct goals, but for coalition-building with health advocacy groups. They may not share our alternative-to-PP goals  but could be excited to partner with people who want to build up CHCs as nonviolent institutions.

When CHCS (or RHCs) are good: Action – Ready to Go

When they have potential but need help: Action – Needs Improvement

When there are none: Action – No Nearby CHCs

Contact Persons to Get People Involved

In all cases, getting people involved in campaigns through our website will require a contact person – provide either a phone number or e-mail address or both. If you’re willing to serve as a contact person, let us know so we can add this to the constant updates of our listings.

Be sure to be clear whether the contact person is covering just one town, one city, one region with specific towns and/or cities, or the entire state.

Contact Rachel MacNair, Project Coordinator, 816-753-2057 (US Central Time Zone) to have a conversation and generate ideas about the best ways to approach your local situation.

A Note to Pregnancy Help Centers

Referring people to the CHCs we list is great, but please research them first. You don’t want to send someone somewhere that’s going to make them angry at you as they face limited hours, long waiting lists, or other frustrations.
